McComb Bruchs Performing Arts Center in Wautoma will be presenting an opportunity for area youth ages 7-18 to participate in the Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre original musical production of “The Wizard of Oz”, with script and original music by Daniel Nordquist and Deborah Pick. Auditions and rehearsals will be held the week of June 12th through 17th, with performances on June 16th at 7:00 PM and June 17th at 1:00 PM.
Based on L. Frank Baum’s classic American fairy tale, Prairie Fire’s version is set in contemporary American at the beginning, and it is from there that the tornado takes Dorothy over the rainbow to Oz.
Registration and auditions will be held Monday, June 12th, at 12:30 PM at the McComb Bruchs... Performing Arts Center. Up to 75 youth are needed to play the roles of Dorothy, Toto, The Munchkins, Glinda the Good Witch, The Tinman, The Cowardly Lion, The Green Guard, The Wizard, The Emerald City Traders, The Flying Monkeys, The Winkies, Aunt Em, Uncle Henry, and the Yellow Brick Road.
Two professional actor/directors from the staff of Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre will conduct the auditions as well as direct the production and play the roles of The Scarecrow and The Wicked Witch of the West.
There are no registration or participation fees for youth to be involved in the production. This week-long Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre residency is being sponsored by Wautoma Kiwanis Club, Dawn and Dave Peterson, Ideal Accounting and Koeppl Law Offices, S.C. Tickets for The Wizard of Oz are available at the McComb Bruchs Performing Arts Center located at 514 S. Cambridge St., Wautoma. The box office will be open Wednesday through Friday, 10:00 am until 2:00 pm the week of the show and from 5:00 pm until show time on the 16th, and 11:00 AM until show time on the 17th of June.
